Five Stages of Startup Funding
Raising money for a startup business is often the first and most important financial choice that entrepreneurs make. The decision will impact the way the company is structured and operated, as well as how much capital it requires to grow.

The amount of funding a startup needs depends on its growth potential, whether it plans to sell its shares to the public (IPO) and the stage of development. It is important to understand the five different stages of funding and how each phase requires a different level of investment from investors.

Seed Funding
The most common type of funding for startups is seed funding. This is the early stage of raising outside investment, and usually involves seeking angel investors, who are individuals that believe in the idea behind the business. These individuals typically provide 5-10 percent of the total funding for the startup.

Series A Funding
The second round of startup funding is known as series A and typically attracts a wider range of investors. This round of funding is designed to increase the company’s size and capabilities, and usually includes a company valuation.

Series B Funding
The third round of startup funding is known as series B and usually includes a larger scale of expansion, as well as new product development. This round also involves a company valuation and is typically used to attract more venture capitalists.

Once a company has reached series C and expanded, the next step is to raise an initial public offering (IPO). This final round of funding involves selling company shares to the general public, which can bring in a significant level of new capital.
